Our flagship
Many guests choose a guide for the whole week to give themselves the best chance of exceptional fishing. In 2024 we invested just over NOK 3.2 million in an Arronet 30CC with twin 200 hp outboards. It is an exceptionally comfortable platform with one clear purpose: helping us fish more effectively.
At 9.41 metres long and 2.8 metres wide, it handles seas that would make a trip in a 23.5-footer much less appealing. Instead of sitting in the wind with constant engine noise on a long run, passengers travel in a warm, quiet cabin with seven seats. When conditions allow, there is time for coffee and music. One passenger also has a suspension seat.
Comfort is only part of the story. Our ambition is for this to become the boat that catches the most Atlantic halibut over two metres in Norway, year after year. Its ability to cover distance in a sizeable sea gives us more chances to reach the best areas, particularly the fjords on Sørøya’s north side. In flat-calm weeks the difference is smaller, but when the weather restricts the other boats, access to a wider choice of marks can be decisive.
Large sliding doors open both sides of the cabin. We get a comfortable cabin boat for the journey and an open working area while fishing. The details were designed with our own fishing in mind.
We have priced the upgrade to cover the boat’s own costs. We do not add a large margin to make a profit on the boat, because that would make the price unreasonable. The investment is mainly about our working environment over a long season and enabling us and our guests to fish as effectively as possible, even when the weather is against us.
Guide-boat upgrade
The upgrade costs NOK 15,000 for the week, or NOK 3,000 for an individually arranged day. A guide is required. At the current guiding rates, the guide and guide-boat supplement together cost NOK 42,000 for six fishing days or NOK 8,000 for one day, in addition to the accommodation and boat package.
The guide boat normally uses more fuel than the rental boats, particularly on long-range trips. Allow approximately NOK 15,000–30,000 for a week in the guide boat and usually NOK 8,000–18,000 for a rental-boat week. Fuel is charged separately, and the final cost depends on distance, sea conditions and use.
Booking the guide boat
Advance booking is for a full week of guiding with the guide boat. Individual days are only offered once the whole camp is booked for that week and no group has taken the guide boat for the full week. A specific date can then be agreed; it cannot be held in advance on a weather-dependent basis.
Where several groups ask at the same time, individual bookings are generally first come, first served. If several groups want multiple days because of bad weather, we share the days between them. Camp Halibut decides the fairest allocation, aiming to give everyone an opportunity to get out.
