Having a guide in the boat makes a major difference to your chances of catching the fish of your dreams. We share advice with everyone at camp, but time on the water with a guide gives you practical knowledge you can use for the rest of the week. Many groups want guiding at the start of their stay. Those days fill quickly, so book ahead if particular dates matter to you. The booking overview farther down the page clearly shows how many guided days have already been booked for your week.
Our guides are incurable big-fish addicts. We do not watch the clock when the fishing feels right. If there is a real chance of a special fish, the guide is rarely the person calling time, unless darkness or a change in the weather makes it necessary. Eight hours fulfils the booked full-day commitment. After that, the guide remains responsible for safety, boat handling, knots and helping you fish effectively, but is free to fish too. We want a promising session to continue when conditions allow.
On a good long-range trip we may keep going as long as everyone has the energy. Particularly in May, a keen group may choose a 15–24-hour session. At the other extreme, strong wind, continuous rain and difficult fishing in the fjord may lead everyone to agree to finish after five hours. Guests booking a full week of guiding usually average more than ten hours on the water each day, unless the weather seriously restricts the fishing.
We try to keep our guiding as affordable as possible. The knowledge and commitment you gain access to make an enormous difference to the fishing, and we want as many guests as possible to benefit from them.
